Deborah Patz, PsyD, LAC, E-RYT is a licensed psychologist in the State of Colorado and a licensed addictions counselor Debby got her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of the Rockies in 2009, her masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the Colorado School of Professional Psychology in 2007 and her Bachelors degree in 1988 from Harvard College. She has extensive experience working with complex trauma and dissociative disorders (including DID), often using EMDR and elements of IFS. In addition to her private teletherapy practice, Debby is a part time Staff Psychologist at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center. Before becoming a therapist, Debby was a journalist in the magazine world and still writes an occasional piece for publication.
Debby trained as a yoga teacher at intensive trainings with Baron Baptiste, completed her 200 hour certification at CorePower Yoga in Colorado Springs and is level 1 trained in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy; she is a registered experienced teacher with Yoga Alliance. Debby presented on the effectiveness of harm reduction to treat substance misuse at the 2018, 2019 and 2020 Psychotherapy Associates Winter Symposium and at the 2018 and 2019 Colorado/Wyoming College Counseling Center Conference. She presented the findings of her research in yoga therapy at the IAYT's Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research in 2009 and at the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association's annual convention in 2010. Debby co-presented on yoga, therapy and embodiment at the 2018 Rocky Mountain Humanistic Counseling and Psychological Association Conference. Her work was featured in the spring 2012 edition of The Addictions Newsletter, the February 2010 issue of Prevention Magazine, on KRDO radio, in the September 30, 2010 Colorado Springs Gazette and the November 2009 issue of Redbook Magazine. She has written numerous articles on a variety of subjects, including articles about yoga for healing.
On a personal note, Debby has practiced yoga since 1991 and began practicing mindfulness meditation shortly thereafter. She teaches primarily in a mindful vinyasa style incorporating elements of Ashtanga, Bryan Kest’s Power yoga, Baptiste Power yoga, Iyengar, Kundalini and therapeutic yoga styles. She has completed over 25 marathons, two ultramarathons and a half Ironman distance duathlon and has guided disabled runners in marathon and half marathon distance races. Debby rode her bicycle across the United States and spent a year backpacking through parts of India, Nepal, Israel, Asia and Africa. She is a voracious reader and an active volunteer in her community.
